Florida Gulf Coast holds off Kennesaw State 62-55

KENNESAW, Ga. (AP) ? Freshman Bernard Thompson scored 18 of his season-high 22 points in the second half as Florida Gulf Coast defeated Kennesaw State 62-55 Wednesday night for the Eagles' first road win of the season.

Florida Gulf Coast (6-8, 2-2 Atlantic Sun Conference) has won three of its last four.

The Owls (3-12, 0-4) led by five early and 27-25 at the break. The game was tied for the eighth time at 39 with 13:21 remaining, then Thompson hit a 3-pointer and a jumper and Brett Comer made two free throws for a seven-point Eagles cushion.

Kennesaw State got within three twice, the second time at 54-51 with 2:05 left. Thompson and Christophe Varidel made four free throws apiece to seal the win.

Spencer Dixon and Aaron Anderson had 17 points apiece for the Owls. Markeith Cummings, who averaged a team-high 17.2 points per game, scored only five points in 38 minutes.
